The Friendly Nipple
(2016-2018)
The Friendly Nipple (TFN) was an interactive art campaign focused on investigating the ways in which women inherit and internalize the male gaze. By personifying the female nipple I constructed a container for afab women, including myself, to understand our internalized shame, fear, and self-policing behaviors and get comfortable with the image of the nipple.
American culture uses taboo and abject horror to keep women preoccupied with fear of their own anatomy and shame for natural bodily functions. Preoccupation with these fears keeps us distracted from getting to the root of the problems of our cultural subordination.
